The
applicant has proposed 50.5 caliper inches of deciduous and ornamental trees in the provided
area near Building Addition 1. In addition the applicant has provided 66.6 caliper inches of
coniferous trees in the area surrounding Building Addition I. The applicant has also
proposed supplemental landscaping of ~ caliper inches to be located in two supplemental
landscaping zones on the site. The two supplemental landscaping zones are located at the
northwest comer of the Guidant Campus, just west of Building 0 (the former Liv-A-Snaps
building) and the other location is along the east edge of the existing parking on Lexington
Avenue. The result is 242.6 total caliper inches. This level of landscaping exceeds the sheer
numerical requirement by 73.85 caliper inches. Due to the fact that the majority of this
landscaping is located in the supplemental planting zones, and the landscaping around
Building Addition I does not meet the categorical requirements (see table below), additional
information will be necessary to detennine that this Site Plan meets the landscaping
requirements. Additional information should show approximate locations and descriptions of
the landscaping to be incorporated in the supplemental planting zones. Also, staff would
encourage the applicant to better address the 4.5 to 5 caliper inch category. Currently, this
area is not addressed by the landscaping provided around Building Addition 1.

Caliper Inches of proposed trees are outlined on the table below

This table does not include the caliper inches from the supplemental planting zones. The
coniferous trees proposed by the applicant actually fall somewhere between the categories
listed below as they are 3.33 caliper inches (8-foot height divided by 2.4). Staffhas included
the coniferous trees in the 2 to 3 caliper inch category.

1-2 Stories

50 % (84.5 inches)

30 % (50.7 inches)

20 % (33.8 inches)

Proposed # of
Caliper Inches

99.6 caliper inches

17.5 caliper inches

o caliper inches

In addition to the trees outlined above, the applicant is proposing to plant shrubs and various
perennials around the building.

2. Height ~ Meets Code Requirement (as allowed per PUD Amendment)

The maximum building height allowed in the I-I Limited Industrial District is 35 feet. The
previously approved Master Plan PUD called for this building to be 30 feet in height. The
proposed elevations show a building height of 36 feet and 6 inches at the highest point. The
amended Master Plan PUD allowed for this I-foot, six-inch variance in height from the
zoning requirements.

PC #03-07- PC Memo 022703 - Page 3 of 6
