Moore, Operations & Maintenance Director -Jty...'AA ~ , ~.

Purchase of a Portable Televising System for Sanitary and Storm water)\jnes.

FROM:

SUBJECT:

Backl!round

The City of Arden Hills does not own a Portable Televising System for sanitary and storm water
lines, In the past, televising work that can be scheduled have been contracted out and in
emergency situations where televising is needed, a system is rented.

In the past 29 months, the City has spent over $57,000 for the use of a Portable Televising
System. (The City annually budgets $100,000 for sewer lining and repair, in which $20,000 is
allocated for televising), The 2002 Sanitary Televising Project, which was expanded to include
the entire Glenpaul Neighborhood, incurred a $35,000 televising cost. In 2003, we have had to
date, four emergency situations where 0 & M Staff could have used a Portable Televising
System. Only once were we able to "borrow" another city's Portable Televising System, We
were later informed by that city that we would be charged for future use of their system, The
charge would be at the rate of: time and half for two employees (minimum of three hours), gas
mileage and a rental fee for the equipment. In two of the other situations, the rental stores were
not open. In the fourth situation, we hired Visu-Sewer at a cost of$I,500,

Specifications and EQuipment

Model: Aries Saturn III Portable Pipeline Televising System
· Pan & tilt color camera
.
