They also tend to be the newest reporters on the staff. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Beat reporters are the specialists who cover only one category of news, such <br />as the Capitol, energy, the environment, business, outstate Minnesota, gaming, <br />health care, the arts, politics, or the courts. They are typically the more <br />experienced reporters who have a good grasp of the material. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Columnists, editorial writers, and commentators provide their personal <br />opinions about news and public policy issues. They are not objective because <br />they deal in opinion and specific points of view. They are not reporters, but <br />they do ask questions. <br />
