<br />~ <br />~ILLS <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: January 8, 2004 <br /> <br />TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Cynthia Young, Deputy City Clerk/Huillan Resources Director <br />Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator rv~ <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Appointment ofMurtuza Siddiqui as Finance Director <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />In September 2003, the City Council reviewed the job description and salary for the vacant City <br />Accountant/Treasurer. The position was formally changed to "Finance Director" with an <br />adjusted salary range. Following that change, staff initiated a forma] recruitmentprocess. <br /> <br />The position was advertised through October 24th. A total of fourteen applications were <br />received. Six applicants were selected for the first round of interviews. Upon completion, three <br />finalists were selected to participate in a management assessment and a second round of <br />interviews. Two finalists were then selected to complete a final interview. At that time, there <br />was general consensus on a top candidate for the position. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The recommended candidate is Mr. Murtuza Siddiqui. Mr. Siddiqui earned a Masters Degree in <br />Finance from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul. Highlights of his work experience <br />include eleven years as principal accountant/internal auditor at Metropolitan Council and nearly <br />nine years as the Chief Financial Officer with Minnesota Technology, a publicly funded State <br />Agency. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Murtuza Siddiqui as Finance Director for the City of Arden Hills, <br />effective January 20,2004, and beginning at Step 3 of the approved 2004 Compensation Plan. <br /> <br />IIEarthlAdminlJIuman ResourceslCLASSIFlCATIONS\Finance Director\200411~06-04 Memo to Council RE Appointment.doc <br /> <br />e <br />
