<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />~ <br />~~HILLS <br /> <br />DRAFT <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS, MINNESOTA <br />COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br />MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2004, 4:45 P.M. <br />CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 1245 WEST HIGHWAY 96 <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Call To Order <br /> <br />Mayor Aplikowski callcd the meeting to order at 4:55 p.m. <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Aplikowski, Councilmembers: David Grant, Gregg Larson, and Lois Rem. <br /> <br />Absent: Councilmember Brenda Holden <br /> <br />Staff present: Administrator, Michelle Wolfe; Finance Director, Murtuza Siddiqui; Operations <br />& Maintenance Director, Thomas J. Moore; and Scott Clark, Community Development Director. <br /> <br />Others present: Tim Boelke, Ralph Adair, Dan Reutimann, Tim Entner, Bob Musil, and Aaron <br />Backman <br /> <br />2.A. Lake Johanna Fire Department: <br /> <br />Tim Boehlke and Ralph Adair provided an update from the Fire Department. Mr. Boehlke <br />mentioned that over the past five years, thc number of calls from the Arden Hills residents had <br />steadily increased, while calls from the other contract c.ities were steady. He indicated that of all <br />the calls they responded to in 2003, 37% came from Arden Hills. He also pointed out the total <br />dollar loss in 2003 was higher than the other contract cities. The Mayor asked why the cost was <br />so much higher than the other cities. Mt. Boehlke responded that this was primarily due to the <br />big fire in the Townhouse Development. Mr. Boehlke emphasized there is nothing to be alarmed <br />about this number. <br /> <br />Mr. Boehlke mentioned that they have contacts with the U.S. Army for the TCAAP property and <br />also with the National Guard for the land they have under National Guard control. He also <br />mentioned that they have received a FEMA grant totaling $50,300 for the purchase of various <br />items. <br /> <br />Mr. Boehlke mentioned that all full-time employecs are eligible for PERA Police and Fire fund <br />or PERA coordinated plan. Mr. Boehlke mentioned that they have also started to respond to <br />motor vehicle accidents with injuries calls. He anticipates about 150 calls. Mr. Boehlke also <br />mentioned that they are looking at converting the half-time inspector position to full time in <br />2005. <br /> <br />Mr. Boehlke talked about the need for an additional rated engine at Station I. He estimates the <br />cost of a used engine to be between $125,000 and $200,000 and is expecting Arden Hills to pay <br /> <br />\ \Earth \Admin \Council\Minutes\ W orksession \2004\06- 21-04.doc <br />
