<br />... ~. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Ramsey County Sherifrs Office <br />Volunteers Involved in Public Safety (VIPS) unit <br />Community Affairs Officers <br />Duties and Programs <br /> <br />The Volunteers Involved in Public Safety (VIPS) unit is made up of a number of volunteer <br />groups that include the Chaplains, Explorers, Community Affairs Officers, TRIAD and <br />Citizen Academy. Each group participates in countywide functions to assist the Sheriff s <br />Office staff in a number of ways, The following are a list of programs we work on each day. <br /> <br />Community Education <br />. Sheriff s Office Open House <br />. Citizen Academy <br />. Youth Academy <br />. Citizen Academy Alumni Training <br />. Youth Literacy Plus Program <br />. St. Paul Ramsey County Safe Gun Storage Campaign <br /> <br />Injury Prevention Education <br />. Bike Safety <br />. Stranger Awareness <br />. Firearm safety <br />. Pedestrian Safety <br />. Railroad Safety <br /> <br />Chaplains <br /> <br />The VIPS Unit currently has six chaplains that offer a number of services for the public as <br />well as department staff. The following are types of services provided: <br /> <br />. Counsel employees, citizens, and families of department personnel <br />. Visit sick and injured officers, fire-fighters, and other department personnel at <br />home or in the hospital <br />. Family notifications for death scenes and provide assistance to victims <br />. Share information and leadership in stress management, ethics, family life, <br />and other related topics <br />. Serve as liaison to other clergy in the community <br /> <br />Our chaplains are on call 24 hours per day, seven days a week and they rotate the <br />responsibility on a weekly basis, The chaplains contribute 8,000 hours oftime to the <br />Sheriff's Office each year. <br /> <br />Explorers <br /> <br />The Ramsey County Sheriffs Explorer Post # 2 is an extension of the Boy Scouts of <br />America, chartered through thc Indian Head Council of Minnesota.
