An overview of the proposal was presented at a joint meeting of the Arden Hills and <br />New Brighton City Councils in late 2003. The current provider of law enforcement services is <br />the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department. The County currently provides these services on a <br />contract basis to seven Ramsey County communities. Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher <br />provided a presentation to the City Council at the January work session. At the February 17 City . <br />Council work session, the Council had an opportunity to ask questions of the Ramsey County <br />Sheriff and the New Brighton Public Safety Department. Following the timeline outlined by <br />City Council, the next step was to receive public input at the February 23 regular City Council <br />meeting. <br /> <br />The proposal from the City of New Brighton proposes a start date of January 1, 2005. The <br />current agreement with Ramsey County requires that nine month notice be given if a City intends <br />to terminate the agreement at the end of a calendar year. <br /> <br />DlSCUSSION <br /> <br />Since the initial proposal was presented by the City of New Brighton in November, the City <br />Council has received a great deal of information regarding both proposals. Most recently at the <br />February 23 City Council meeting, the public provided input regarding police services. The City <br />Council outlined a time table that included putting this topic on the agenda for the March 8 City <br />Council meeting for final action. <br /> <br />REQUESTED ACTION <br /> <br />Approve one ofthe following motions: <br /> <br />. <br />
