Moore, Director of Operations & Maintenance ~ ~. ~ <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Purchase of a Replacement Water Main Locator <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Operations & Maintenance Department has budgeted for the purchase of a water main <br />locator in the 2004 Capital Improvement Plan Budget. The existing water main locator was <br />purchased in 1989 and is currently not operational and the parts are no longer made or sold, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />MINNESOTA COOPERATIVE PURCHASING VENTURE (CPV) <br />The City of Arden Hills currently pays $350, annually, to maintain membership in the CPV, <br />This allows the City to participate in State specifications and bid prices, resulting in the City of <br />Arden Hills paying the same rate for a single piece of equipment as the State does for multiple <br />pieces. DaviesINorthern Water Works, located in Blaine, is the vendor that has the State contract <br />for water main locators, <br /> <br />BUDGET <br />The proposed water main locator is a Metro-Tech 850 Water Main Tracer. It is a hand held unit. <br />(The existing non-operational water main locator has no trade in value and will be scraped.) The <br />cost of a Metro Tech 850 Water Main Tracer, including sales tax, is $3,200, The 2004 Capital <br />Improvement Plan Budget for the replacement of a water main locator is $3,500. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the purchase of a replacement water main <br />locator from DaviesINorthern Water Works, located in Blaine, at a cost not to exceed $3,200, <br /> <br />llEarthlPR&PWIOperations & MaintenanceIEquipment\2004-05-1 0 Purchase of a Water Main LocatoLdoc <br /> <br />. <br />
