Moore, Director of Operations & Maintenance I~ d:- ~ <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Purchase of an Asphalt Hot Box Hopper <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Operations & Maintenance Department has budgeted for the purchase of a new asphalt hot <br />box hopper in the 2004 Capital Improvement Plan Budget. The asphalt hot box hopper will be <br />used to repair streets, trails, parking lots and curb sections. Currently the 0 & M Department . <br />rents this piece of equipment .at a yearly cost of $6,000, This yearly cost average pertains to a <br />seven year period (1997-2003). <br /> <br />MINNESOTA COOPERATIVE PURCHASING VENTURE (CPV) <br />The City of Arden Hills currently pays $350, annually, to maintain membership in the CPV, <br />This allows the City to participate in State specifications and bid prices, resulting in the City of <br />Arden Hills paying the same rate for a single piece of equipment as the State does for multiple <br />pieces, MacQueen Equipment, Inc" located in St. Paul, is the vendor that has the State contract <br />for asphalt hot box hoppers, <br /> <br />BUDGET <br />The proposed asphalt hot box hopper is a Spaulding model with a two ton capacity. It is <br />equipped with a compact roller, warning light system and an overnight electric heater. The cost <br />of a two ton Spaulding hopper, including sales tax and licensing, is $18,000. The 2004 Capital <br />Improvement Plan Budget for a hot box hopper is $22,000. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the purchase of a new asphalt hot box hopper <br />from MacQueen Equipment, Inc., located in 8t.
