In fact, recent alumnae searches have verified what we've known for
almost 85 years-whether in business, sports, government, science, educations or the arts, Girl Scouting
launches leaders in all fields.

At this time of year, the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley celebrates the achievements of our own
emerging leaders: the recipients of the Girl Scout Gold Award. Despite the prestige and status of this
honor. we find that members of the media and the general public are often unaware of its existence.

It is my pleasure to inform you that a young woman from your community recently earned her Gold
Award, launching her as a leader in her community. (The enclosed roster provides her name)

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting. It is available to Senior Girl Scouts in
grades 9 through 12. To achieve it, girls must complete extensive prerequisite activities in the areas of
leadership, skill development, and career exploration. They must also plan and implement a leadership
project involving 50 hours of community service over four months. The reach of a Girl Scout Gold Award
project is often far, touching the lives of people in our own community, and also in places as far away as
Bolivia.

.

We hope you will recognize the Girl Scout Gold Award recipient in your community be presenting her
with a plaque, mailing a certificate or personal letter, or mentioning her accomplishments at your next city
council meeting. Some cities have chosen to hang a permanent plaque in city hall to commemorate their
Girl Scout Gold Award recipients. Plaques such as these can be updated on an annual basis.

If you are able to provide same recognition for the Girl Scout Gold Award recipient in your community,
please contact Kimberly Polley. at 651-251-1214 or kpolley(Q)girlscoutscv.org. The Girl Scout Council
will then put you in touch with the recipient and her family.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,

1t;-y~

Kathryn Grimes
Director of Marketing and Communications

Enclosure

.

. f-tm1e<1 in part by United Way

Serving i'l cr parts of Anob., Chisago.
