<br />2004 GOLD AWARD RECIPIENTS <br /> <br />For more information, please contact Kimberly Polley at 651-251-1214 or <br />kpo II ey(iiJ, girlscoutscv. org <br /> <br />APPLE VALLEY IROSEMOUNT/INVER GROVE HEIGHTS <br />Molly Jabas (Apple Valley, MN; Eastview High School) <br />Tonya App (Rosemount, MN; Rosemount Senior High) <br /> <br />Tonya and Molly lave to read and wanted to make sure the children in their communities of <br />Rosemount and Apple Valley are able to enjoy it too. They decided to write and produce books <br />for local ESL (English as a Second Language) programs and the Robert Lewis House, a safe <br />house for women and children who are threatened by domestic violence. Other local Girl Scout <br />troops helped the girls write the stories. The girls edited, illustrated and bound 30 books, <br />distributing them to the Robert Lewis House and local elementary school ESL programs. Molly <br />and Tonya are now working on translating the books into Spanish. <br /> <br />Virginia Westlie (Apple Valley, MN; Rosemount Senior High) <br />Jennifer Mike (Inver Grove Heights, MN; Rosemount Senior High) <br /> <br />Jennifer and Virginia wanted to support local National Guard members currently deployed <br />overseas. Working with the Minnesota Army National Guard Family Assistance Center, the girls <br />rallied commnnity members and businesses to contribute items for entertainment care packages. <br />These packages full of magazines, books, hard candy, DVD's and videos benefited more than <br />100 soldiers. <br /> <br />ARDEN HILLS <br />Anna Dinndorf (Arden Hills, MN; Mounds View Senior High) <br /> <br />Anna has always loved to write, so for her project she adapted a writing class she took in <br />elementary school and shared it with a group of kids at Emma's Place, a low income housing <br />facility in Maplewood. In the class, each child wrote an original story, and made it into a book, <br />complete with their own illustrations. Anna was proud that her project got the kids excited about <br />writing and gave them a way to express their creativity through the written word. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br />
