~ 7l'\~ HILLS CITY OF ARDEN HILLS COUNTY OF RAMSEY STATE OF MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 04-54 RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE CLOSING OR REPURPOSING OF THE VALENTINE HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WHEREAS, the Mounds View School District is facing declining enrollment and its associated financial impacts; and WHEREAS, the Mounds View School Board recently announced the need to close or "repurpose" school building(s) in light of declining cnrollment: and WHEREAS, the Mounds View Public School District is in the process of seeking and receiving public input regarding the criteria used for determining which school buildings to close or "repurposc; and WHEREAS, the Mounds View School District recently made a presentation to the Arden Hills City Council on the need for changes and the process that will be used to arrive at these decisions; and WHEREAS, among the cities in the Mounds View School district, the City of Arden Hills is the onlv municipality that has only onc primary school (Valentines Hills Elementary School) mthin its borders, and has no middle school; and WHEREAS, the presence of at least one primary school within the City's borders is absolutely essential and a recognized assct for Ardcn Hills, its neighborhoods, and the parents and children that reside in our city; and WHEREAS, the relatively central location of Valentine Hills Elementary School ",ithin the District, and the recent and significant capital investment in the building, will make it one of the more expensive schools to close or repurpose. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that thc City of Arden Hills opposes any action by the Mounds View School District that would close Valentine IIills Elementary School, the only primary school in the City, or otherwise repurpose Valentine Hills in a manner that precludes its current function as a primary school; and \\Earth\Admin\CounciI\Resolutians\20Q4\04-54, Advocating for Valentine Hills Elementary School,doc .. \ - e -
