Jim Tolaas will be at the Council Work Session to discuss
the general scope ofthe proposed landscaping improvements and requested City cost sharing (if any). The
county's general approach to the landscaping is to provide trees along boulevards and in the median
where safety clear zones allow. Additional landscaping in the form oftrees, shrubs, plants or walls would
be included with the project at city cost. Council has not expressed a strong interest in embellishing the
County's scope of landscape improvements in past discussions. We are revisiting this issue at this time in
order to incorporate any additional City landscaping (if approved by Council) into the County's contract.

Options for Council Consideration
The following are the general options for consideration by Council:

A) Do not choose additional landscape work beyond the scope proposed by Ramsey County
B) Consider additional landscaping improvements at select locations
a. Intersection Areas - Hamline, Lexington. Snelling, Keithson
b. Incorporate Arden Hills entry monument signs into contract
C) Consider additional landscaping more uniformly throughout the entire corridor

We have attached drawings of potential intersection improvements which were prepared a few
years ago for information. We have not prepared costs as the scope of landscaping ranges from
no cost to several hundred thousand dollars (ie. Shoreview treatment). Council should consider
that any additional landscaping would need to be maintained by the City and could also require
irrigation systems or hose bibs to be installed in areas. Currently no irrigation stubs have been
installed in the corridor although watermain does exist and could be tapped for irrigation
anywhere in the corridor. Budget cost estimates for installing shrub beds range from about $6.00
