<br />e <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />~ <br />~HILLS <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />Agenda Item 6.E <br /> <br />April 25, 2005 <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />Peter Hellegers, City Planner ~ <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: PC #05-07, The City of Arden Hills <br />Covered Front Porches as Permitted Encroachments <br />(subject to administrative approval) <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />· Consider Ordinance #357 which would amend section 6.C.2.a of the Zoning Ordinance <br />and insert new section 6.C.2.d into the Zoning Ordinance, allowing for front porches of <br />up to ten feet and with a minimum setback of30 feet from the front or side-yard comer <br />property lines, which meet design standards to be allowed subject 10 staff review and <br />approval. <br />. Consider Resolution #05-29 ~.-hich would add the front porch language and Front Porch <br />Design Guidelines to Appendix A of Zoning Ordinance #291. <br /> <br />Planninl!. Commission Recommendation <br /> <br />Recommendation and Conditions of Approval <br />At their March 2, 2005 meeting the Planning Commission reviewed Planning Case #05-07 and <br />unanimously recommended approval (5-0) of the Zoning Ordinance Amendments as proposed. <br /> <br />Update <br /> <br />At the April 18, 2005 City Council Work Session the City Council directed staffto remove <br />language that would allow for enclosed porches by eliminating glass from a material that could <br />be used as part of the 65% open area. The City Council also directed staff to insure that the steps <br />leading to the covered front porches would meet the building code requirements. The attached <br />documents reflect this discussion. <br /> <br />Options <br /> <br />1. Recommend approval as submitted. <br /> <br />2.
