<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ <br />~HILLS <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />Agenda Item 7.A <br /> <br />May 9, 2005 <br /> <br />TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Peter Hellegers, City Planner ~L <br /> <br />SUBJECT: PC #05-07, The City of Arden Hills <br />Covered Front Porches as Permitted Encroachments <br />(subject to administrative approval) <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />· Consider Ordinance #357 which would amend section 6.C.2.a of the Zoning Ordinance <br />and insert new section 6.C.2.d into the Zoning Ordinanee, allowing for front porches of <br />up to ten feet and with a minimum setback of30 feet from the front or side-yard corner <br />property lines, which meet design standards to be allowed subject to staff review and <br />approval. <br />· Consider Resolution #05-29 which would add the front porch language and Front Porch <br />Design Guidelines to Appendix A of Zoning Ordinance #291. <br /> <br />Planninl! Commission Recommendation <br /> <br />Recommendation and Conditions of Approval <br />At their March 2, 2005 meeting the Planning Commission reviewed Planning Case #05-07 and <br />unanimously reeommended approval (5-0) ofthe Zoning Ordinance Amendments as was <br />proposed at that time. <br /> <br />Update <br /> <br />At the April 25, 2005 City Council Work Session the City Council directed staff to review <br />language relating to the base of the porch as a solid masonry perimeter and instead to return to <br />the Council with language which allowed for more flexibility for the porch base. Attached are a <br />copy marked "EDITED" whieh shows the changes proposed for Ordinance #357, many of which <br />remain from the April 25th meeting. Also attached is a clean copy of Ordinance #357 which <br />includes all of the changes up to this point.
