.....

~
.~HlLLS.
CIty otArden HIlls
Re uest for Council Action

Prepared by: PH
Dept.: Com. ev.
Council Mtg. Date: 05/09/05
Final Action Needed By: 5/9/2005

Agenda Item 1';,1
PC #05-10: RCPWF Monument Siqn Variance
Budgeted Amount: $0.00
Actual Amount: $0.00
Funding Source: $0.00

Council Action Request:
Consider the requested Sign Standard Adjustment of 130 square feet from the Signage Ordinance criteria for a
freestanding monument sign (Section 333, Tabie 1, Sign District 6):
-Maximum Area for Freestanding Signs: 130-square foot variance (from 45sq. ft. to 175 sq. ft.)

Staff Recommendation:
Deny the requested Sign Standard Adjustment of 130 square feet from the Signage Ordinance criteria for a
freestanding monument sign for the following reason:

1. The proposed sign is inconsistent with both the Civic Center Zoning District and Sign District 6, which
anticipated more destination oriented facilities that would not require as much sign age as the commercial
zoning and signage districts. The proposed sign would require a variance of 130 square feet and woutd
be nearly four (4) times the maximum size for the freestanding sign age in that sign district. Furthermore
the proposed sign is nearly twice as large as the maximum size for freestanding signage anywhere in the
City. A smaller variance from the Sign Ordinance Standards would give the applicant the greater visibiiity
they are seeking and would also be more consistent with the City's Sign Ordinance Standards.

Advisory Commission Action:

.......................................
Commission

- f-

Date

Action

_nO' --J

.. ...Planning
PTRC

---------~_____.i
!
i
"1'

5/4/2005-- r-:-n ----Denied (5-1) .
I NotApplicabie
n __._._u.~_._i'l.ot-'3.PJJlicable

Supporting Documents (which are attached to this Action Form):

l2J Memo/Letter:
Staff Report to the City Council - May 9, 2005
Staff Report to the Planning Commission - May 4, 2005
o Resolution (No. )
o Ordinance (No. )
o Engineering Recommenda1ion:

o Attorney Recommendation:

o Other:

Financial Implications:

.Administrator/Staff Comments:
