.

.

.

~
~HILLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:
TO:
FROM:
SUBJECT:

June 15, 2005

AGENDA ITEM: 21

Mayor and City Council
Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator ~
Northwest Area Library Access Task Force

The Ramsey County Library Board has created a Northwest Area Library Access Task Force.
This group will be studying and evaluating services in the northwest portion of the county. You
may have read about this in the paper or in some of the materials I've sent out in the
Administrative Update.

Attached is a letter from Library Director Susan Nemitz. In it, she outlines the goals and
timeline for the task force. Each of the three communities in involved (New Brighton, Arden
Hills, and Mounds View) is being asked to name representatives to the task force. Arden Hills
will need to appoint one public official or city staff person, and one citizen representative. They
are asking that those appointments be made by July 5; therefore, I have schedule this item for the
June 27 City Council meeting.

For the work session, I wanted to provide an opportunity to discuss the information provided.
Mayor Aplikowski will have recommendations for appointments to the task force.

I've asked Ms. Nemitz for information about the appointment process to be used for the
remaining members of the task force. In her letter she notes that the Task Force will also include
up to two residents from each community chosen by the Library Board by means of an
application process. We will want to assist the process and encourage our residents to seek out
this opportunity to serve the City. 1 will share any new information I receive at the June 20
Work Session.

Attachment

MW
IIEarthlAdminlCity Administrator'ILibraryI20051,6-1 4-05 Memo to Council RE NW Task Force.doc
