<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ <br />~~HILLS <br /> <br />PERSONNEL POLICY STATEMENT- <br /> <br />PROHIBITING USE OF TOBACCO <br /> <br />Rationale of the Policy <br /> <br />A healthy work force is in the best interest of the City and each of its employees. According to <br />the Surgeon General of the United States, smoking is the "single largest preventable cause of <br />death known to the medical profession." <br /> <br />By establishing a smoke-free policy the City protects non-smokers from the toxic effects of <br />smoke pollution while working for the City, and encourages smokers to reduce use of tobacco <br />products while working for the City, in accordance with sound public health practice and <br />overwhelming medical evidence. <br /> <br />Places Where Tobacco Use is Prohibited and Allowed <br /> <br />The City of Arden Hills hereby establishes a smoke-free policy for all City-owned buildings. This <br />policy includes park shelters and warming houses. City Hall shall have a designated smoking <br />area outside for City employees and visitors. The designated smoking area at City Hall will be <br />the lower level patio area. Tobacco use is prohibited in City owned licensed vehicles and <br />equipment. The City shall not provide employees or others with tobacco products by vending <br />machines or any other method. <br /> <br />To Whom the Policy Applies <br /> <br />All persons in any City building or City owned licensed vehicle are covered by this policy. <br />Employees who wish to smoke must do so during a scheduled break or lunch period. <br /> <br />Approved by the City Council the 27th Day of March, 2006. <br /> <br />Beverly Aplikowski, Mayor <br /> <br />Date <br /> <br />Michelle A.
