. MEMO

.

.

To:
From:

Arden Hills PTRC Members
PTRC Visioning Subcommittee (Roger Williams, Bill Henry, Jim Crassweller,
Cindy Wheeler, Joani Werner, Rich Straumann)
Draft Parks and Trails Vision
FebrullI)' 9,2006

Subject:
Date:

The following material was prepared by the Visioning Subcommittee and was
briefly presented to you at the September meeting. Due to a number of
circumstances, the Subcommittee was unable to meet during the past month.
Therefore, further discussion of the visioning committee's work is postponed until
the November meeting.

**********************************])BU\FT*************************************

CHARGE:

The P1RC Visioning Subcommittee is charged with a) articulating a vision that leads to (a
system oj) parks and trails that enhance the health and well-being of Arden Hills citizens, and
provide access to natural and recreational resources in the city and the region, and b)
recommending strategies for bringing this vision into reality.

PROCESS:

The subcommittee will develop a vision for parks and trails in Arden Hills for consideration by
the PTRC. The vision will build on recommendations in the 2001 Comprehensive Plan for
Parks, Trails and Open Space. After discussion and revision as necessary, it is hoped that the
PTRC will recommend the vision for adoption by the city council. The document to be
recommended to the council will include considerations/design principles, the statement of
vision, maps illustrating the vision graphically, priority issues to be addressed and a set of
strategies to be pursued to achieve the vision.

CONSIDERATIONS:

I. Interest in parks and trails is strong among Arden Hills citizens.
2. Arden Hills is blessed with a broad array of natural resources, but the lack of adequate
public access to these resources limits their value.
3. Expanding access to natural resources in Arden Hills can enhance the well-being of citizens
and the value oftheir property, and increase the desirability of the city as a place to live and
work.
