Attachment to Change Order No.1

Owner:
Contractor:
Project:

City of Arden Hills
Amt Construction Company, Inc.
2005 Pavement Management Program

.

Description of changes:
The following is an overview of the modifications proposed to the contract with regard to the bituminous density incentive
and the addition of pond excavation material (Common Channel Excavation),

!!_ituminous Density Incentive
The performance specifications incorporated into the project included potential incentive/disincentive payments to the
Contractor based upon the in-place density of the bituminous pavement installed on the project. Following the paving, test
cores are taken from the roadways and analyzed for density among other material characteristics to ensure the materiaJs
confOlID to the specifications, When in-place densities of bituminous meet certain thresholds (both above and below the
specified density) a bonus or deduct payment is calculated for the ContractoL Based upon results from the 2005 paving we
have calcnlated a bonus payment of $4,575,60 due the Contractor lor achieving densities above the specified thresholds,
This is a reflection of good paving construction which should resnll in a better perfonning pavement forthe City,

Pond Excavation
The original contract included 10,750 Cubic Yards of pond cxcavation, The pond sizes were revised to meet NURP
,tandards for removal of pollutants, The increase in pond size equates to 12,012 cubic yards of material. The Contractor has
been paid the contract price of $7,24/CY for the additional excavation in previous payments, The Contractor has requested
compensation for additional costs incun'ed resulting from the need to dispose of the additional pond excavation materials
(above original contract quantity), The dump sites that were secured for the original bid included payment from others to
offset the Contractor's hauling and placing costs, The additional materials (above the original contract qnantity) were not
able to be disposed of at the same location and were trucked to various locations. dumped, spread and compacted with no .
payment from others to offset the Contractor's hauling and placing costs, The value of $3,22/CY represents the cost
associated with dumping, spreading by bulldozer and compacting the materials at new sites, Hauling distances were
detennined to be approximately the same as those which the bid was based upon therefore no extra compensation is being
requested for hauling, URS staff reviewed hauling records and dump fees paid by Amt Consl11Jction to verify the distances
and activihes which are pan of the claim. fiascd upon OUf review we believe the $3.22 is an accurate representation of the
additional costs beyond contract unit prices inclllTed by the Contractor for the additional work,

Change Order Number 1
I.
