.

.

.

the product works directly at improving the customer's satisfaction of the
buying experience. Activities recommended for consideration in improving
the product include:

Ear/v: Years 1-2

7) Gateway Plan,

Visitors to Arden Hills are often in the community before they realize
they are arrived. It is easy to move from a neighboring community
without realizing that one has entered Arden Hills. The paths along
which one moves into and out of a community are referred to as the
gateways. Arden Hills would be well served by placing modern
welcome signs at its gateway entrances greeting visitors and
residents.

8) Way Finding Signage

Moving throughout the community can be made more effective
through the addition of way finding signs. As their name implies,
these signs help to direct travelers to specific destination points in the
community such as city hall, parks, shopping districts, schools, etc
When incorporated into the design of the gateway sign age, they add to
the style of the community creating a greater sense of presence that
someone has arrived in Arden Hills.

9) Capital Improvement Planning

One of the most challenging, yet unglamorous roles that community
leadership must address is creating an operating and maintenance
program for its many assets, To the average citizen these assets
seem like permanent infrastructure that will be there forever. To
anyone who has served in the publiC arena the knowledge that these
assets are in a continual state of decay is well known. Improvement
plans and budgets need to be put in place so that this process is an
annual appropriation of funds. The electorate is most focused on
those items that are above ground, i,e, streets, sidewalks (trails) and
parks. Prudent fiscal planning will also address those items below
grade; sewers, water and utility infrastructure.

Strategic Plan for Economic Development Page 15 of 25
Final Draft - Readv for Release Subject to Council Approval and Adoption
