In the past, the City Council has agrecd not to support or <br /> disapprove the actions of othcr political bodics. <br /> Councilmember Holden recommended tbat thc City remain status quo in regard to not taking a <br /> stance on political issucs that are not dcemcd City business. <br /> Councilmember Grant said that he does not believe it is the City Council's role to support levy <br /> referendums through a rcsolution. <br /> Councilmember Pellcgrin said that he does not support the City's passing of a rcsolution on this <br /> matter. <br /> Mayor Aplikowski said that she is not supportive of passing a resolution created by a parcnt or <br /> neighborhood group that is not directly affiliated with the school district. <br /> Members of thc City Council agreed that the proposed resolution will not be placed on a future <br /> City Council meeting agenda. <br /> Geese Removal Discussion- <br /> Community Developmcnt Director Karen Barton noted that the Canada Geese numbers in thc <br /> metropolitan area have grown dramatically over thc last few years. City Hall has rcceived a <br />. numbcr of complaints from residents regarding gecsc, wild turkeys, dcer, and moles dcstroying <br /> vegctation, fouling the arca, causing property damagc, and evcn becoming aggressive. <br /> Thcrc arc a number of ways in which the City could deal with nuisance wild life. None of thc <br /> proposed methods are 100% effective. Thc proposcd methods may also not be socially <br /> acceptable or without cost to the City. <br /> The following is a list of methods for whieh the City Council may wish to considcr regarding <br /> wild life nuisance control: <br /> . Controlled hunting of the animals; <br /> . Non-lethal managcment techniques used by the DNR, including barrier fences, scarc tape, <br /> energizcd fcnces, hazing, and landscaping; <br /> . Trapping and relocation. <br /> Mayor Aplikowski said that she does not belicve that wild life nuisance control should bc the <br /> responsibility of the City. It should be a resident and homeowncr association issue. <br /> Councilmember Pellegrin said that animal control is not a public safety issuc. It is morc of a <br /> quality of life issue. <br /> Councilmembcr Larson notcd that the City currcntly contributes $500.00 pcr year towards gcese <br />. rcmoval for Lake Johanna.
