. ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL -. NOVEMBER 13, 2006 5
. D. Motion to Approve the Criteria for Placin2 Plannill2 Commission Cases on the
Consent Calendar at Future City Council Meetill2s
Mr. lJehnhoff statcd at the Septembcr 18, 2006 Council work session, the Council requested
staff prepare a set of evaluation criteria for determining if a planning case can bc placcd on the
City Council's consent calendar. Sincc many planning cascs are not controvcrsial and have a
unanimous recommendation from the Planning Commission, this step would increase the
efficiency of reviewing certain non-controversial planning cases at City Council meetings.
Mayor Aplikowski stated she was not in favor of this. She noted there have been times in the
past when the City Council did not agree \vith the Planning Commissions rccommendation.
Councilmember Larson stated it might be nice to movc thc Consent Calendar to follow the
public infornlational portion of thc meeting, which would givc Council the opportunity to take
thc item off of the Consent Calendar iftherc was someonc in attendance who wanted to speak on
an item. He stated he did not agrce with the criteria that the City Council liaison's
recommendation is rcquired for placing a planning case on thc conscnt calendar or not.
Councilmember Grant statcd it might bc a good idea to table this item until after the first of the
year when the new Council was in attendancc. He notcd the new Council might want to make
certain changes.
. Mayor Aplikowski recommended thcy vote this down and let staff bring it to the Council after
the first of the ycar.
Councilmember I.arson helieved they should vote on this now and just because there were new
people coming onto the Council should not be a reason to stop doing City husiness.
MOTION: Councilmember Grant moved and Councilmembcr Holden seconded a
motion to deny the Criteria for Placing Planning Commission Cases on the
Consent Calendar at Future City Council Meetings.
