Plume 65 J -486-3808 · Fax 65 J -486-3858 · 1l'H'w,n)1s,org
Welcome to the new NYFS Quarterly Report. We have expanded and redesigned this
report to give you a better understanding of how our combined efforts provide the most
comprehensive and cost-effective care available.
Filline in the Gaps
Because of your financial partnership with NYFS, your residents are eligible to receive
many of our scrviees regardless of their ability to pay. We do this because of the
overwhelming necd to fill in service gaps created by the traditional social service system.
Many of our clients (and your residents) make too much money to qualify for federal
assistance, yet don't make enough money to pay for health insurance or othcr necessary
support serviccs. For many of your uninsured and low-income residents, NYFS is the
only treatment option they may have. We are also one of the few agencies that specialize
in treating children's mental health disorders. According to the Surgeon Gencral's Report
on Mental Health, 70% of children and youth with mental health issues receive no
treatment at all,
. NYFS Pro!!ram Profile- Senior Chore
"We will help seniors with just about any chore that needs to be done around their homes
to make their livcs easier;' says NYFS Senior Chore Program Leader Debbie Peterson.
The program matches seniors in need of chore services with youth and adults who can
provide thc services at very affordable rates, Seniors who meet federal income guidelines
can also qualify for free services.
"We get calls from picking up apples, gutter cleaning, window cleaning, garage cleaning,
moving heavy furniture -- even painting and doing small repairs," Peterson says.
Currently there arc 100 seniors actively enrolled in the program. The oldest is 97. Each
year over 200 youth and adults provide nearly 1,400 hours of service. This year, NYFS
has been very fortunate to receive help from thc Land O'Lakes Corporation. Land
O'Lakes volunteers recently received a half day ofT from work so they could participate in
NYFS' Fall Rakc A Thon.
"We will be having a ministry group from Bethel College called Gloves and Boots
partnering with us for the entire school year;' adds Peterson. "They will volunteer for the
seniors every Saturday throughout the year!"
For more information about the Senior Chore Program, please call Debbie at 651-379-
3451 or email debbi~p-,@llyfs,Q[g.
.
