;;
. ~
~~HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 24, 2006 PC Agenda Item 4.B
TO: Planning Commission
FROM: James Lehnhoff, City Planner
SUBJECT: Draft Comprehensive Plan Update Schedule
The next Comprehensive Plan update is due at the end of 2008. While that seems like a distant
date, the comprehensive planning process can take a considerable amount of time and effort to
produce a quality, useable product. Over the last several months, Karen Barton and I have been
attending training sessions at the Metropolitan Council to learn about the information
requirements and analyses that must be included with the updated Plan.
The Comprehensive Plan helps set the stage for what residents and businesses want the City of
. Arden Hills to look like and how the City should function in the next 10, 20, and 30 years. Just
as important, the Plan helps all of us understand the role that Arden Hills plays in the
metropolitan region. The Comprehensive Plan is an extremely important document that will
require a considerable amount of staff time and resources as well as community involvement.
The attached schedule is preliminary and is certainly subject to change. In addition to the
technical requirements that will largely be completed behind the scenes, the Plan schedule
incorporates a significant amount of time for community input and opportunities public
involvement. We are also working with our consultants and the Metropolitan Council to
determine exactly how the TCAAP development process should be incorporated into the
Comprehensive Plan update process. As Staff gathers more information, we will bring it to the
Planning Commission to keep you up to date.
. Page I of 1
