~
~HILLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

April 24, 2007

Agenda Item: 4.F.

TO: Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator
Honorable Mayor and City Council Members

FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager 7J!{)

SUBJECT: Resolution No. 07-46: Appointing Joani Werner and Wallace "Joe" Nosek to
serve on the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Committee.

Backl!round
The Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee (PTRC) currently has two vacancies for
membership. A panel consisting of Greg Hoag, Public Works Director; Bill Henry, Committee
Chairperson; David McClung, City Council Liaison; and Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation
Manager conducted interviews on Thursday, April 19, 2007. The City received five applications
and all candidates were granted interviews. The candidates were:

Mr. Charles Kachel
Mr. Wallace "Joe" Nosek
Mr. John Peck
Mr. Harold Peterson
Ms. Joanie Werner

After the review, the panel is recommending appointment of Ms. Joani Werner of 1758 Crystal
Avenue and Mr. Wallace "Joe" Nosek of 1850 Stowe Avenue. Bill Henry, PTRC Chairman
provided the following comments on the selected candidates:

Both Joani Werner and Wallace Nosek bring needed strengths to the PTRC. Joani
was a member of the committee in the past, but was forced to withdraw because
of the demands of her job. Her knowledge of aging and disability will be a real
asset to the Committee's work. She is the mother of teens who are active
participants in the City's recreation programs, and her experience as an advocate
will bolster the committee's communication processes. Joe is an environmental
engineer whose training and experience will be important as the PTRC deliberates
advances in the parks and trails in both the developed portions of the City and in
the expansion planned for TCAAP. Joe has been an active member of other
communities where he has lived, including serving as chair of the Lake County
Planning and Zoning Commission. That experience will be an important asset as
the PTRC continues their work on advancing parks, trails, and recreation.
