TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Michelle Wolfe; City Administrator FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager /?MJ SUBJECT: Arden Manor Play Structure Replacement Backl!round On May 3, 2007 the police and fire department were called to Arden Manor Park for a fire that had been started on the slide of the play structure (Ramsey County Case # 07-11073). Numerous juveniles were in the area and Ramsey County Deputy W. Knight, who filed the report, was told that two juveniles were on the slide smoking at the time ofthe reported fire. After tracking down numerous juveniles in the area, no suspect was developed. It is undetermined if a cigarette was the cause ofthe fire. City staff took photographs of the damaged slide and had the Public Works Department tape off the slide for safety reasons. The slide had significant damage and after inspection, it was determined that the entire slide would need to be replaced. The slide has since been removed due to safety concerns and the area has been secured until the replacement takes place. The estimate to replace the slide is $6,078.54 (quote is attached), which includes installation. A claim was reported with the League of Minnesota Cities on May 4,2007. The $6,078.54 will be applied to our $10,000 deductible from the Risk Management Special Revenue Fund. This special revenue fund was established to pool dividends received from the League of Minnesota Cities for positive claims experience. This fund tracks dividend revenues and deductible costs for claims.
