<br />~ <br />..-A~ HILLS <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />June 25, 2007 <br /> <br />CC Agenda Item 4.C <br /> <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br /> <br />FROM: James Lehnhoff, City PlannerI!' <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Planning Case #: 07-013 <br />Planned Unit Development Amendment <br />Hood Packaging Corporation (Matthew Hegstrom) <br />1887 Gateway Boulevard <br /> <br />Request <br /> <br />Motion to Approve Planning Case 07-013 for a PUD Amendment at 1887 Gateway Boulevard <br />Based on the Findings of Fact and the Submitted Plans as Amended by the Four Conditions in <br />the June 25,2007, Planning Case Report. <br /> <br />Back2round <br /> <br />Hood Packaging Corporation is located at 1887 Gateway Boulevard in the Gateway Business <br />(GB) Zone on Interstate 35W. Hood Packaging manufactures various types of paper and plastic <br />packaging products and is a conforming use in the GB Zone. The applicant is requesting a <br />Planned Unit Development (PUD) amendment to install two additional 2,000 gallon storage <br />tanks to the southeast side of their building. Each tank is fourteen feet long, five feet four inches <br />tall, and five feet four inches in diameter. The tanks have a double wall construction and sensors <br />to reduce the possibility ofleaks <br /> <br />The applicant has submitted a letter explaining the basis for the request; however, in sum, the <br />two tanks would be used to store solvents and waste materials used in their manufacturing <br />process (Attachment 3B-I of the report to the Planning Commission). The stored materials <br />would be transported offsite each month for recycling and returned the site for reuse. According <br />to the applicant, the new storage and recycling system would reduce hazardous chemical <br />disposals by as much as 65 percent. The applicants have a valid license with Ramsey County for <br />handling hazardous materials.
