Wolfe, City Administrator ~ <br /> <br />Motion to Approve the Cable Technician Service Agreement with the City of New <br />Brighton <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />In 2006, the City's part,time cable technician resigned, He had been working for us as a contract <br />employee, City staff spent time evaluating options for cable technician services, We recruited for and <br />interviewed several candidates for a part-time position, and also solicited proposals from neighboring <br />communities. After evaluating all options, staff recommended approving an agreement with the City of <br />New Brighton for these services. The City Council approved an agreement with the City of New Brighton <br />at the July 31, 2006 City Council meeting, The existing agreement expired recently, so it is time for <br />renewal. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />As a staff, we have been pleased with the services provided by the City of New Brighton, They are <br />responsive to our needs, are dependable, and have solved the technical problems we have experienced this <br />year. I still believe this is a great alternative to hiring our own part,time employee, since it saves us <br />training time, recruitment costs, and the time and effort to find someone to cover if our employee cannot <br />be there. Since New Brighton is part of the same cable commission as Arden Hills, they are very familiar <br />with our cable system and services, <br /> <br />The only change in the agreement from last year to this year is an increase in the fee, This increase <br />reflects the amount of time spent providing the services, It was anticipated it would be approximately <br />three hours per week, but it has averaged approximately four hours per week Therefore, the proposed <br />increase is from $250/month to $370/month, (This equates to $1,440 per year.)
