My proposel of building an attached garage has a section of 12.5 square feet that has
need for a variance. The need is in keeping with the character of the neighborhood and
spirit of the city. One way it keeps the character is by the flow of the other neighboring
houses, these houses all aligned with each other with porches around 35 feet and
attached garages around 37 feet from the 40 foot front setback. Another way of
keeping character and spirit is by keeping the original 1940's type look of the houses on
our street by continuing the garage as it is now, this would be an assest to the city. As a
note, it would be cheaper for us to build a detached garage in the back yard, $20,000
compared to $32,000, but that would not keep the original character and would also
take considerable green space away. We enjoy the green space of our back yard. And
we enjoy the green space of the surrunding parks and would not want to move. We
think the green space of this property is one of its greatest assests and could not think of
distroying that by placing a garage in back.

0::/4;~
