PARTNERS &51 11R,NY
December 2003
Mr. Douglas Schroeder
Vice President for Business & Finance
Northwestern College
St. Paul, Minnesota
Dear Mr. Schroeder and Dr. Miller,
h i t e
Dr. Harold Miller
Provost
Vice President for Academic Affairs
Northwestern College
St. Paul, Minnesota
This planning document describes the basic overview, approach and analyses that have
been employed in preparing Northwestern College's Campus Master Plan.
From its beginning, this Campus Master Plan was intended to be a planning framework,
which can adjust to meet unforeseen changes in the future. We hope this planning
exercise will remain active, evoking the participation of faculty, staff and students in
shaping their future. It is vital to the future development of the college to rally
widespread support in responding to the needs of the campus programs and users.
This report makes realistic assessments of physical needs of the college, but also makes
some observations in the area of policy and management. This might sound like the
study exceeds the confines of the original scope, yet these issues all have implications in
utilization of the College's facilities.
During the course of our study, it was obvious both in interviews and actual
observations that faculty and staff are sincerely dedicated and earnest in their desire to
work within the constraints of the existing facilities. It was also obvious that the
College's facilities are well kept and help mitigate space issue concerns by providing a
clean and supportive environment.
On a personal level, I thoroughly enjoyed working on your campus. You have an
admirable group of people that truly make the College what it is. They generate a
supportive and encouraging atmosphere for all those on campus to absorb, myself
included. They were a joy to work with, but more importantly, the type of environment
that they create generates an exceptional setting for the students to live and learn in. I'm
sure that as students move on, they will carry those values of care and respect with them
throughout life.
In closing, we wish to thank you for selecting our firm to engage in such an important
project for your institution. We also would like to thank those who contributed to the
assessment process. We hope the results will meet your expectations and help with
effective and efficient campus management, as well as serve as one component of the
College's institutional plan.
Enthusiastically,
PARTNERS & S[RNY LLP LdLlr ce P ge
212 West Franklin Avenue Partners & Sirny L.L.P.
Minneapolis Minnesota 55404Archltects & Planners
Telephone 612.341.1070
Facsimile 612.341.2124
generaMpartnersandsirny. coin
