I' v
7 Regularly and continually, as opportunities afford, make the
case to all community constituencies the reasons why continued,
managed growth is essential. I.e., philosophically "we should
not limit God's sovereignty for NWC's mission"; and fiscally,
_ "NWC needs the additional revenue in order to accomplish its
strategic goals."
POLICY
8 To maintain long term integrity of the campus, permanent stand-
ing committees should be established for the following purposes:
a Space Evaluation Committee: monitor and assess cam-
pus -wide space needs, and respond to departmental space
requests.
b Historical Preservation Committee: ensure aesthetic preserva-
tion of campus architecture and artifacts, while at the same
time, balancing the true costs with preservation.
c Committees shall consist of a broad constituency to assure that
the overall interests of the college are assured.
9 While the Master Plan provides a large scale, long-term frame-
work, additional detailed studies need to be performed to fully
implement the plan. Sub -studies include:
a Preliminary storm water engineering study (will involve Rice
Creek Watershed)
b Preliminary utilities engineering study (capacities, locations,
etc.)
c Soil borings to determine soil types and capacity
d Detailed campus Master Landscape Plan (develop working
relationship with a landscape architect)
e Engineering report to consider the impact of decentralization
versus a central physical plant.
f Detailed planning studies (with appropriate consultants and
affected staff) to 7,4'
and build 'specialized' spaces
{
0 'lf suppo tMasteCampusandards should be estab-
lished for the following items:
a Wayfinding system (site and building internal)
b Landscape materials (paving, plant materials, lighting, etc.)
(per Landscape Architect)
c Furnishings (especially generic classrooms and computer labs
where student capacity can be greatly affected by type and
sizes of chairs and tables)
NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS PAGE 5.2
