Public Education and Outreach
® Public Participation/Involvement
Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
• Construction Site Runoff Control
Post -Construction Runoff Control
® Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping
II. INTRODUCTION
Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary opened in September 1923 as a four-year high school
and two-year junior college for candidates for diocesan priesthood. Its 87 -acres were
purchased from the Archdiocese of Saint Paul/Minneapolis by Northwestern College in
1970. Moyer Hall was built as an on -campus residence hall in 1973. In 1980, the Hartill-
Knutson residences and Robertson Student Center was completed to house all residential
students on campus. In 1982, the Totino Fine Arts Center was completed. In 1992, the
campus library was moved into the new Berntsen Resource Center. In 1996, the Ericksen
Center was completed.
Today, the Northwestern College campus retains its rural charm within the context of its
core educational mission. It has a sense of community because most of the student
population is located on or near the campus.
The College's natural environment (Figure No. 1) is largely a function of its two lakes,
Johanna and Little Johanna, which occupy a large part of the total land area of the
campus. Lakes Johanna and Little Johanna generally fall into two Minnesota Department
of Natural Resources (MDNR) categories; Natural Environmental and Recreational.
Northwestern College Master Plan 2 13529.000
Stormwater Management Study
