James Lehnhoff

From:
Sent:
To:

Ted Stamos [ststamos@mac.comj
Thursday, November 08, 2007 9:45 AM
James Lehnhoff

Hello James

In accordance with our instructions I am e-mailing you at the
address on the card you gave me, in order to be put on the e-mail
list so as to be kept notified of events surrounding the Walgreen issue.

As I mentioned in my remarks last night, though not in a very
articulate way, your study report is excellent, and also contains
the grounds for denial of the proposal based on a significant
negative impact that cannot be mitigated. I I was pleased with the
ultimate vote. I am hopeful that the council will be in agreement.

The whole thing is beyond just Walgeen1s or the Arden Pharmacy,
though the community (the common person on the street) is just about
about unanimous in opposition to Walgreen;s and in support of our
beloved pharmacy. No other pharmacy would bother to send flowers to
your child when in the hospital for surgery, as they did for our
child. Nevertheless......

We need to make it a priority to first create our community vision,
what we want to be, where we want to go. The strategic vision.
Included would then be the restrictions and guidelines for
developers to follow. In this way the proposals could be tailored so
as not to harm the vision, or perhaps be able to compliment or
enhance the vision. This would help make a good partnership between
the twin goals of sound economic benefit and the maintenance of our
quality of life (our community vision) .

All the other tactical decisions would fall into place, traffic,
trees, etc. That would be proactive. The free market could then
compete in a partnered way with us. Future development would have a
guideline. As I said last night, I learned as the clinical director
of a mental health outpatient clinic, if the money people ran the
show, our patient care vision diminished. If the clinical people ran
the show, we would go bankrupt. We need the healthy tension down the
middle. right now, the developers run the show (not their fault)
and our community vision is in jeopardy. We need to get the healthy
balance back by putting our vision and appropriate resulting
restrictions in place for a good partnership with our developers.

Good luck. I am appreciative of all of our city leaders and what you
do on our behalf. You are all acting in our best interests.

Ted Stamos
4423 Arden Veiw Court
Arden Hills, Mn. 55112
65l-633-7067

1
