<br />EMPLOYMENT TRENDS AND CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />This section examines employment growth trends in the Arden Hills Market Area. Since em- <br />ployment growth generally fuels household growth, employment trends are a reliable indicator of <br />housing demand. Typically, householders prefer to live near work for convenience. Local em- <br />ployment trends will shed light into the potential demand for new housing on the TCAAP site. <br /> <br />Commuting Patterns <br /> <br />People working in Arden Hills who commute to their jobs are a potential market for housing in <br />the TCAAP development. <br /> <br />Table 9 shows commuter patterns to and from Arden Hills based on data obtained from the 2000 <br />U.S. Census. The data shows the work destinations for persons who live in Arden Hills, as well <br />as the commuting patterns of those who work in Arden Hills. The following bullets summarize <br />these commuting patterns based on information from the last census. <br /> <br />· The majority of Arden Hills residents work outside the city. However, on a city-by-city <br />breakdown, Arden Hills captures the largest portion of resident workers, followed by St. <br />Paul, Minneapolis and Roseville. Just over 77% of Arden Hills's workforce commutes to <br />jobs located outside the city. <br /> <br />· The greatest connection between home and work occurs between Arden Hills and St. <br />Paul.
