EMPLOYMENT TRENDS AND CHARACTERISTICS

Jobs Located in the Market Area

Table 10 shows data on the number of jobs in Arden Hills and the surrounding Market Area.
The figures in Table 10 were estimated by Metropolitan Council and show total jobs by commu-
nity from 1990 projected to 2030. Again, we felt that original Met Council projections were too
high for Arden Hills. We did not feel the city would be seeing the addition of nearly 3,000 jobs
from 2020-2030, and amended those projections to remain flat at just over 17,000 jobs during
this decade.

~ There were a total of about 160,549 jobs in the entire Arden Hills Market Area in 2000,
with the majority located in Roseville (39,000) Fridley (26,000) and Blaine (17,000).

~ Arden Hills is still projected to see a substantial 23% growth in job creation this decade.
The communities projected to have the greatest job growth- Fridley, Roseville and New
Brighton - are largely fully developed and limited in their potential to add new homes.
TCAAP would offer a convenient location for new workers to commuting to jobs in these
cities.

Area Employers

The Arden Hills Market Area is home to several large employers. Below are the employee
numbers of five ofthe largest.

~ Land O'Lakes added 150 employees to its Arden Hills location in September, bringing
the total number of employees in that location and in the company's Shoreview location
across the street to 1,300.

~ Medtronic's new Mounds View facility will house up to 3,200 employees, with plans to
grow to 6,000 in a series of expansions on that site.

~ Deluxe Corporation in Shoreview has 2,200 employees, 600 of them entry-level call cen-
ter workers.

~ Celestica of Arden Hills employs approximately 600 workers, and is looking at the poten-
tial for expansion within the next three years.

~ Boston Scientific has plans to layoff 500 to 600 workers in its Arden Hills facility at the
end of February, 2008, according to a January 8, 2007 Star Tribune article. The Arden
Hills Market Area's reliance on medical technology jobs will continue to influence em-
ployment growth.

30

MAXFIELD RESEARCH INC.
