<br />Tree Preservation Ordinance <br /> <br />1305.04 <br /> <br />Definitions. <br /> <br />Critical Root Zone. The minimum area around a tree that should remain undisturbed. To <br />calculate the critical root zone. measure the tree's caliper inches. For each caliper inch of tree. <br />1.5 feet of root radius must be protected. For example. if a tree's is 10 caliper inches. then its <br />critical root radius is 15 feet (10 x 1.5 = 15). The critical root zone is 30 feet. <br /> <br />Caliper Inches. The diameter of a tree measured at 4.5 feet above the around. <br /> <br />Sianificant Tree. A tree that is important to the site and the neiahborhood character. that is <br />structurallv sound and healthv. and that meets at least one of the followlha standards: <br /> <br />a. A deciduous hardwood tree that is at least ten (10lc:a!iper inches. includina but not <br />limited to. ironwood. catalpa. oak. hard maple.walhut.hickorv. birch. black cherrv. <br />hackberrv. locust and basswood. <br /> <br />b. A deciduous softwood tree that is at least twelve (12) caliper inches. includina but not <br />limited to. cottonwood. poplars/aspen. box elder. willow, silver maolg,and elm. <br /> <br />c. A coniferous everareen tree havina foliaae on the outermost portion of the branches <br />vear-round and which is at least fifteen (15) feet,orrnore In heiaht. <br /> <br />d. A aroup of deciduous treeslhatare at least eiaht (8) caliper inches or coniferous <br />trees that are at least fifteenl15Ueetin heiaht.that provide a buffer or screenina <br />alona an adiacent public street. and that are within 50 feet of an arterial road or 35 <br />feet of a minor collector street or local street. <br /> <br />1325.055 Tree Preservation. <br /> <br />:\ reasonable attempt shall be mad,e to proteeland preserve existing trees and incoIJlorate <br />them into the landseapeplan. <br /> <br />. Subd.1 FindinasOPurpose and CitvAuthority. <br /> <br />A.i>.Findinosand Purpose. The purpose of this section is to identify trees <br />thaL,are to be saved when development or land disturbina activitv is <br />occurrlna. It is the City's intent to protect. preserve. and enhance the <br />natural environment of Arden Hills and to encouraae a resourceful and <br />prudenLapproach to development. The citv council finds it is in the best <br />intereSt of the citv to protect. preserve. and enhance the natural <br />environment of the community and to encouraae a resourceful and prudent <br />8ooroach to development and propertv alteration. In the interest of <br />achievina these obiectives. the citv has established the comprehensive <br />tree preservation reaulations herein to promote the furtherance of the <br />followina: <br /> <br />1.
