<br /> <br /> <br />The Active pubnc <br />One tier of participation strategies is intended for those who tend to be <br />actively engaged in the community; people who participate in civic <br />organizations, civic clubs, business groups and other organized interests. <br /> <br /> <br />A public "open house" presentation. <br /> <br /> <br />Local cable TV can be used effectively <br />to show committee meetings. (Reality <br />programming at its best.) <br /> <br />Outreach activities for the Active Public could include small-group <br />meetings, individual briefings, cluster meetings, interactive workshops <br />and "focus groups." To get beyond the "usual suspects," we have found <br />a proactive "go to where they are" approach to be effective (e.g., attend <br />meetings of the townships). To stretch budgets, client staff often wish to <br />conduct these activities. <br /> <br />The less-Active General Public <br />A second tier of participation activities would be aimed at those who <br />may wish to be informed of the progress of the plan and its outcome, <br />who may wish to have some input, but do not care ~ or have time ~ to <br />attend meetings. For this large segment of the populalion, our process <br />offers information Ihrough the local weekly newspaper, the City's Web <br />site and drafts of the plan. Comments and opinions can be collected <br />through the Web site, and a telephone number into the City offices. <br /> <br />Working with the Otizens Advisory Committee <br />Meetings with the advisory committee will have several objectives: <br />. Reflect general community opinion and provide advice to the City <br />slaff and consultant on matters of policy and land use <br />Identify what people really value about Arden Hills and the B2 <br />District. . <br />Help identify shortcomings in Ihe current plan. <br />. Help committee members understand the role of the plan, its contents <br />and the major issues. We define issues as questions to be discussed <br />and resolved during the planning process.
