Motion to Approve Ordinance 2008-007 in Planning Case 08-014 to Add Section 1325.055, <br />Tree Preservation Ordinance and its subdivisions to the Zoning Code as presented in the April <br />28, 2008, Report to the City Council. <br /> <br />2. Motion to Approve Publishing a Summary of Ordinance 2008-007 for the Tree Preservation <br />Ordinance as Permitted by Minnesota State Statute 412.191 Subd 4. <br /> <br />Back!!round <br /> <br />Staff was directed by the Planning Commission and City Council to examine the current zoning <br />code regarding tree preservation. Staff was asked to create an ordinance that would better handle <br />tree loss and tree protection during redevelopment within the City. In response to this request, <br />Staff examined a number of tree preservation ordinances throughout the metropolitan area. In <br />addition, local and national sources were consulted that offer potential best practices on <br />developing a tree preservation orc1inance. A number of people were given the opportunity to <br />review the draft regulations and provide feedback that was implemented into the proposed <br />ordinance, including City Staff that may be impacted by a tree preservation ordinance and <br />landscape architects, both students and those working in the private sector.
