<br />City of Arden Hills ~ Comprehensive Plan - DRAFT <br /> <br />Ave. to County Road F in Arden Hills. As redevelopment occurs and other <br />opportunities arise, the City does seek to complete the trail to both the north and <br />south on the Arden Hills side of Lexington Avenue, <br /> <br />Ramsey County is currently constructinqjhe Rice Creek North Regional Trai~jn <br />the northwestern corner of the City on former Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant <br />(TCMP) property. This new traitis set to become an _important connection in the <br />metropolitan region's trail system. The land adjacent to Rice Creek was part of <br />the federally owned TCMP property; however, approximately 112 acres were <br />transferred to Ramsey County in 2006 for incorporation into the Ramsey County <br />park system. The 2.2 mile, 10 foot wide trail will be open to walkers and bikers, <br />The trail is anticipated to be complete in the summer of 2008. <br /> <br />Designated a regional park in 2006, the 217 acre Tony Schmidt Regional Park <br />extends from the northern shore of Lake Johanna to the west side of Mounds <br />View High School on Lake Valentine Road. Perry Park, a City of Arden Hills <br />park, divides Tony Schmidt Park; however, a railroad underpass completed in <br />2006 provides a trail connection across Charles Perry Park to the two sections of <br />Tony Schmidt Park. While .much of the park is open space,jhe park offers a <br />variety ot.amenities and is connected to local trails. <br /> <br />There are a number of regional parks within a short distance of Arden Hills. Long <br />Lake Regional Park is located in New Brighton, and the Snail Lake Regional Park <br />is in Shoreview. The Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park is in Shoreview, <br />Circle Pines, and Uno Lakes. <br /> <br />9.3 Arden Hills Park and Recreation System <br /> <br />Arden Hills has fifteen City parks ranging in size from oneacre to 28 acres and <br />other open areas that cover more than 145 acres (map). There is also <br />approximately 11 miles of trails, which are primarily located on or adjacent to <br />County Roads. The surface of these trails varies between asphalt, concrete, <br />gravel, mulch, and grass. The parks in Arden Hills provide a varying but wide <br />array of amenities ranging from tennis courts and playgrounds to baseball <br />diamonds and picnic shelters (Table X). The City parks are well-distributed <br />throughout Arden Hills south of Highway 96 and most residents are within one <br />mile of a City park: however, controlled access roads interfere with convenient <br />,access to some parks that would otherwise be close by. <br /> <br />South of Hiqhways 96 and 1 O.lhere are four lakes entirely within Arden Hills and <br />one lake.shared by Arden Hills.i![l.9.
