<br />~ <br /> <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DA TE: <br /> <br />September 15, 2008 <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council <br />R.on Moorse, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />Greg Hoag, Public Works Director <br />Kristine Giga, Civil Engineer <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />Inflow and Infiltration (1&1) update <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />At the August 25, 2008 City Council meeting, Council requested to have time allocated at the <br />next work session for discussion of the Inflow and Infiltration (1&1) issue. Chuck J anski from <br />Bonestroo will be present to provide a brief presentation of the Metropolitan Council <br />Environmental Services (MCES) surcharge program for 1&1, as well as discuss the program as it <br />relates to the four MCES meter service areas in Arden Hills. Staff and Chuck will also discuss <br />our planned next steps for identifying and reducing 1&1. <br /> <br />Work Plan for the remainder of 2008 <br /> <br />Smoke Testing: We have received and reviewed proposals from two local contractors to smoke <br />test the entire MCES meter 51 service area which is located on the eastern edge of the City. <br />Staffwill be bringing a recommended smoke testing project to the City Council at the September <br />29th meeting. The anticipated cost for this project is $30,000. <br /> <br />Manhole Rehabilitation Proiect: Staffhas completed the inspection and data entry for all of the <br />manholes in the MCES meter 59 service area. Staffwill be putting together a scope of work for <br />a fall rehabilitation project.
