Our vehicle was
rear ended by another vehicle. There was only damage to the vehicles involved.

The truck involved in the accident is a model year 2000 Ford F-250 with a power tailgate lift.
Staff reported this accident to the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust who instructed us
to get estimates for the repair of the truck.

Fairway Collision has provided us with an estimate of$5,369.46 for repairs to the frame and
box. Truck Utilities has notified us that the power tailgate is not repairable and needs to be
replaced. They have provided an estimate of$3,065.00 for replacement.

This vehicle currently has 82,428 miles on it and is also starting to experience some transmition
issues unrelated to the accident. This vehicle is included in the 2010 Capital Improvement Plan
(CIP) which the Council will discuss in January. Preliminary estimates to purchase a new
vehicle at this time are approximately $30,000. Staff is seeking direction whether to pursue an
early replacement of this vehicle in 2009 or to repair it and plan for replacement in 2010.

RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION
Staff is seeking City Council input and direction to proceed with repairing the current vehicle or
to explore the costs of an early replacement of this vehicle.
