Other

well as a long-term infrastructure improvement plan for the business area along County
Road E.

The City approved an extension for Boston Scientific to allow a covered walkway on
their campus after expansion plans, including a covered skyway connection, were
indefinitely placed on hold.

Permits and Inspections

A total of 473 building permits along with 751 plumbing, water, sewer, mechanical, electrical,
fire, zoning, and sign permits were issued in 2008. Two new homes were constructed with a
total value of $875,486.00. The total value of all building permits was $11,185,278. The total of
all fees collected was $216,930.23. In 2007, there were 1,361 permits with a total value of
$40,964,131.

Although the number of permits and total value were down from 2007, a complete comparison
across years is difficult because many permits and projects carryover from year to year. For
example, the University Commons project at Bethel University was approved in early 2007 with
a total value of more than $25,000,000. However, that project required staff involvement
through 2007, all of 2008, and will continue through the first half of 2009.

Notable Commercial Construction

Following are some of the larger construction projects that occurred last year.

City of Arden Hills
Planning Commission Meetingfor March 4,2009

\\Metro-inet.us\ardenhills\Planning\Department Records \ Quarterly & Year End Reports \2008\020909 - 2008 Year in Review.doc
