<br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - December 8, 2008 <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung stated that this purchase was the replacement of Ladder <br />Truck 3 for the Lake Johanna Fire Department to be paid for over three years. <br /> <br />Finance Director Iverson stated that radios for Public Safety Management were <br />also purchased in 2008. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holden stated that there were two radios purchased in 2008. <br /> <br />Mayor Harpstead clarified that the City had purchased their share of two fire <br />trucks this year. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung asked if the budget amount for Public Safety included <br />an amount for the City's portion of a new Assistant Fire Chief. <br /> <br />Finance Director Iverson stated that this was included in the budget amount. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung stated that the Council had taken the position that they <br />do not support hiring an Assistant Fire Chief at this time so this would potentially <br />be $14,338 that would not be spent. <br /> <br />Finance Director Iverson stated that the amount was budgeted if the Council did <br />decide in favor of an Assistant Fire Chief. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant clarified that the approval of the budget would back into <br />the levy that still needed to be approved. <br /> <br />Finance Director Iverson stated that whatever changes the Council made with the <br />budget would affect the levy. The levy is determined by what the Council wants to <br />cut. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant stated that the discussion of the levy should be included <br />with the discussions regarding the budget. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant requested that for future meetings a copy of the <br />PowerPoint presentations be included with the memos for the Council. <br /> <br />Finance Director Iverson stated that the proposed levy is $2,961,994 which is <br />5.9% increase over 2008. The proposed tax rate is 20.22% which is a 5.3% increase <br />over 2008. She presented the Council with a PowerPoint presentation which <br />detailed the revenues and expenditures from the levy. <br />
