ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - December 8, 2008 19 Councilmember McClung stated that this purchase was the replacement of Ladder Truck 3 for the Lake Johanna Fire Department to be paid for over three years. Finance Director Iverson stated that radios for Public Safety Management were also purchased in 2008. Councilmember Holden stated that there were two radios purchased in 2008. Mayor Harpstead clarified that the City had purchased their share of two fire trucks this year. Councilmember McClung asked if the budget amount for Public Safety included an amount for the City's portion of a new Assistant Fire Chief. Finance Director Iverson stated that this was included in the budget amount. Councilmember McClung stated that the Council had taken the position that they do not support hiring an Assistant Fire Chief at this time so this would potentially be $14,338 that would not be spent. Finance Director Iverson stated that the amount was budgeted if the Council did decide in favor of an Assistant Fire Chief. Councilmember Grant clarified that the approval of the budget would back into the levy that still needed to be approved. Finance Director Iverson stated that whatever changes the Council made with the budget would affect the levy. The levy is determined by what the Council wants to cut. Councilmember Grant stated that the discussion of the levy should be included with the discussions regarding the budget. Councilmember Grant requested that for future meetings a copy of the PowerPoint presentations be included with the memos for the Council. Finance Director Iverson stated that the proposed levy is $2,961,994 which is 5.9% increase over 2008. The proposed tax rate is 20.22% which is a 5.3% increase over 2008. She presented the Council with a PowerPoint presentation which detailed the revenues and expenditures from the levy.
