<br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - December 8, 2008 <br /> <br />23 <br /> <br />residents to maintain those programs that they are looking for and improving the <br />City. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holmes stated that the Council owes it to the residents to budget <br />sensibly. When there is no impact to the residents and if the City can do what is <br />best for them and is sensible then they owe it to them. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung stated that a 1% cut or $27,000 is not going to put any <br />of the City's priorities in jeopardy. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant stated this one of the few times that he has been glad that <br />there are levy limits. <br /> <br />The motion was called to a vote. The motion failed (3-2: Counci1member Holmes, <br />and Mayor Harpstead). <br /> <br />MOTION: Mayor Harpstead moved and Councilmember Holmes seconded a <br />motion to Adopt Resolution 2008-063: A Resolution Setting the Final <br />Levy for Taxes Payable in 2009 in the Amount of$2,961,994 or 5.9%. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant stated that he would not support a maximum increase and <br />it is unfortunate that the City of Arden Hills would go in for the maximum allowed <br />by law. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung stated that he would not support any levy amount over <br />5.4%. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holden stated that she would support a levy amount of 5.4%. <br /> <br />Mayor Harpstead removed his motion. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holmes removed her second to the motion. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung asked if the City's portion of the Deputy Fire Chief <br />were removed from the budget would the City achieve the 5.4% levy. <br /> <br />Finance Director Iverson stated that this would achieve a 5.4% levy. <br /> <br />MOTION: Mayor Harpstead moved and Councilmember Holmes seconded a <br />motion to Adopt Resolution 2008-063, a Resolution Setting the Final <br />Levy for Taxes Payable in 2009 in the Amount of $2,948,646 or a levy <br />amount of 5.4%. <br />
