Moorse, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager <br />Kristine Giga, Civil Engineer f<t;-. <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Resolution 2009-017: Supporting Regional Federal Transportation Program <br />Funding Application <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />At the May 26, 2009 Regular City Council Meeting, Kimley-Hom and Associates was selected <br />from our Engineering pool to proceed with an application for funding through the 2009 Regional <br />Federal Transportation Program for the County Road E pedestrianlbicycle overpass of Snelling <br />Avenue (TH51). Staff held a meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 with Beth Engum, P.E. and <br />Matthew Jensen,P.E. of Kimley-Hom to discuss the application process. <br /> <br />There are several funding programs within this solicitation for various types of projects. The two <br />types of funding programs that this project is eligible for are: <br /> <br />Surface Transportation Program (STP): <br />Amount of monev in this /JroJ!ram to be awarded: $105 million <br />Maximum award available for each /Jroiect: $5,500,000 <br />Pur/Jose: To provide a source of flexible federal funds to states and local governments to <br />Build highways, bridges, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities, improve transit systems <br />and construct intermodal projects. <br /> <br />Transportation Enhancement Program (TE): <br />Amoul1t of monev in this /JroJ!ram to be awarded: $19 million <br />Maximum award available for each /Jroiect: $1 million <br />Pur/Jose: Transportation-related activities designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic <br />and environmental aspects of the nation's intermodal transportation system. TE funds are <br />directed toward projects that preserve historic, archaeological, scenic and environmental <br />resources related to surface transportation, and to facilitate bicycle and pedestrian use. <br />Trail corridors are intended to provide for recreational travel along linear pathways <br />throughout the metropolitan area. <br /> <br />\\Metro-inet.us\ardenhills\PR&PW\Parks\Melnos\Council Melnos\Melno to CC re - Res 2009-017 County Road E federal application060809.doc <br />
