EN HILLS <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: October 26, 2009 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: James Lehnhoff, Community Development Director <br />Dave Scherbel, Building Official <br />SUBJECT: Former Public Works Building Demolition at 1450 West Highway 96 <br />Action Request <br />Approve staff to contract with Todd Erickson Enterprises, LLC and Semple Excavating & <br />Trucking, Inc. to demolish the former public works building, remove debris from the site, and <br />asbestos abatement for an amount not to exceed $43,800. <br />Backiround <br />Due to the deteriorating condition of the former public works building at 1450 West Highway <br />96, staff is recommending the demolition of the building and removal of debris from the <br />property. Since the building has materials known to include asbestos, the demolition requires the <br />removal and containment of any materials that may include asbestos prior to the demolition. The <br />building is not in a usable condition, the roof leaks, and it has become an attractive nuisance. <br />The building is not used for day to day operations. <br />For the asbestos abatement, the building official received quotes from three contractors that are <br />licensed to handle asbestos abatement. The building official met with the three contractors to <br />ensure that each quote was including the same level of service. The quotes were as follows: <br />• Lindstrom Environmental $17,170.00 <br />• Sheltertech Corporation $12,140.00 <br />• Todd Erickson Enterprises LLC, $500.00 <br />For the demolition and removal of the building, removal of the asphalt parking area, removal of <br />the fence, grading the site, and planting seed, the quotes were: <br />• Frattalone $45,710.00 <br />• Ray Anderson & Sons Companies $39,900.00 <br />• Semple Excavating & trucking Inc $33,000.00 <br />
