October 5, 2009 Meagan Beekman City Planner, Recycling Coordinator City of Arden Hills 1245 west Highway 96 Arden Hills, MN 55112 Meagan, Clearwire offers wireless internet services to residences and businesses at an affordable price as an alternative to DSL, Cable, or dial up service. Clearwire is planning a Metro wide launch in late Spring of next year to most areas in the Metro. They are planning on building 477 sites. All of these sites need to be inter -connected by "line -of -sight" so height of their proposed antennas is crucial. Regarding the three sites I am working on within the City of Arden Hills, these sites were specifically chosen to provide the maximum height within a rather small (/1/2 mile) search area. All three of these sites were specifically selected based on the overall design parameters of the project and how these sites would hook up with the other proposed sites. All of the selected sites offer Clearwire the ability to provide wireless internet to the greatest number of households and businesses. The City's water towers were considered but due to their location and lower height, they do not meet the minimum coverage criteria this project requires. The Coverage Maps on the following page show what the coverage would be if we used the City's water towers versus using the sites we have selected. The dark blue areas show the area where Clearwire service would be available. Both of the water towers are very low in height compared to the guyed and lattice tower which would result in a substantial loss of coverage. Regarding the Country Insurance site at 2 Pine Tree Dr., there is no City water tower in this vicinity. I hope this helps to explain why the 3 sites were chosen.
