ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION-AUGUST 17 2009 21
Finance Director Iverson stated she has been exploring another option over the
laser printer to create greater efficiency and printer speed. She indicated she was
looking at the cost per page through the analysis.
Finance Director Iverson explained that the Springbrook upgrade was mandatory
to continue operation and that it was going to a new platform. She felt the expense
would be lower than projected as the City would not require as much training as
estimated. The City was trying to complete this update before 2009 but that it
looks as if it will be pushed to 20 10.
Councilmember Holmes questioned if Valentine Park was budgeted in the near
future and suggested this be placed in 2011.
Civil Engineer Giga indicated she has spoken to Rice Creek Watershed and Bethel
was working to eliminate the beavers. After they have been removed the County
will clean out the pipes under Old Highway 10. She explained that this item would
be discussed further with the County and Rice Creek to see how the water is
draining and who will be responsible for it.
Mayor Harpstead questioned how far Lake Valentine was projected to drop after
the beaver dam was removed and the culverts were cleaned.
Park and Recreation Manager Olson stated the beaver dam would have a slight -
impact but the culverts could affect it several inches and would remove the water
from the parking lot.
Councilmember Holmes stated the Parks Committee completed a Park tour from
which Valentine Park and Freeway Park were determined to be the most in need.
Councilmember Holden agreed stating Freeway Park needed some additional
landscaping.
Mayor Harpstead questioned if a landscaping budget had been discussed to
address these concerns. He added that the southwest corner of CR96 and
Lexington could also use additional trees.
Park and Recreation Manager Olson stated this would work well with the Eagle
Scouts in the City and their proposed projects.
