ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—September 14, 2009 26
9. Council Comments and Requests(continued)
Councilmember Holden stated that in the Admin Update there was statement that
says if someone does their own work on the I&I they were automatically
reimbursed $100. She asked where this came from.
Public Works Director Hoag stated that there is a self labor rate of $100. This
was part of the ordinance.
Mayor Harpstead clarified that the City reimburses 50% of the cost.
Councilmember Holden stated that Mn/DOT was changing the signage on
Hamline Avenue so there is no left turn into Eide Circle. She asked if this
information had been sent to the residents.
Public Works Director Hoag stated that this information was sent to the residents.
Councilmember Holden stated that she had been asked to give a presentation to
the Arden Hills/Shoreview Rotary on September 15, 2009. She stated that
Community Development Director Lehnhoff would be going with her. -
Mayor Harpstead stated that the mayor of Shoreview was looking at the housing
at the other end of County Road E, on the east end. They began the preliminary
discussions of moving the retail strip to straighten the road. This may mean that
Shoreview would be more interested in what Arden Hills does in the B2 district/
County Road E corridor. -
Councilmember Holden stated that the traffic from the State Fair was really bad
this year. Garbage being left by people was a big issue as well as tailgating in
neighborhoods after the fair ended. She stated that the church was reimbursed for
parking during the fair and the City should require them to take responsibility for
the garbage clean up.
Councilmember Holden stated that in review of the Fire Department budget she
noted that they had requested $5000 for a television. It was discussed previously
that the budget amount is in the contract and if they do not spend the entire amount
then the excess funds go into their general fund and the City is not reimbursed.
Mayor Harpstead stated that the Fire Department meeting is on Wednesday,
September 16. He stated that he would follow up and provide an accounting on
televisions.
